Err...

Well, first of all, do you even HAVE disc 2? What are you doing when it tells you to insert it?

If you did exactly what it says it'd work perfectly and you'd get the enhanced 32X version. Gens is running the standard SegaCD version.

If you don't want the enhanced 32X version you could just disable the 32X in Fusion.

Alternatively, RTFM.

Wow, Snake, way to be a real jerk about it. I have the EXACT same problem, and yes, I have both discs... when I insert Disc 2, it then turns right around and asks for Disc 1 and ends up in a neverending loop of asking for the other disc.

Obviously doing exactly what it says doesn't make it work perfectly... maybe next time you should look into it before flaming some poor guy who was just looking for help.

And yes, turning off the 32X emulation in Fusion does make it work in Sega CD mode, but who wants that?

So has anyone found a way to make the 32X version run on Fusion?

I was not being "a jerk".

The game asks for disk 2, and the guy didn't mention even having or trying disk 2. Also, information about booting games like this IS documented in the text, which would have been the best place to look.

It doesn't go into an endless loop. You boot disk 1, it asks for disk 2. You put in disk 2, it asks for disk 1 again. Put in disk 1 - voila - game runs. Exactly the way it works on a real console.

Yes I know it's stupid but I guess it was the only way Sega could find to stop you just giving away one of the disks to your friend. Nevertheless, it does work as intended if you do exactly what it tells you to do on screen.

I apologise if I get a little annoyed when someone says "the fix is to use something else" without actually waiting or looking for a real fix, but I did spend a LOT of time (and waste a lot of CDRs) making sure that this DOES work properly confused

It'll work if you use a disc emulator like Daemon Tools (external link). Boot with disc 1 first, then swap to disc 2, and that should do it. It doesn't work using 'Load SegaCD Image' because that option likely clears the RAM.

Or, if you're savvy, you can edit the iso to remove the disc check. Change the word value at offset 0x786 to something other than 0x01FF. FYI, you can use this hack on disc 1 to boot the non-32X version on a 32X system. Also, booting a hacked disc 2 on a non-32X system will result in a whole lot of nothing.

Actually, it does - no need for daemon tools. Whenever a game sends the command to open the drive door, as this one does, Kega lets you switch images without clearing or resetting anything. Again, all in the "manual". I know, I keep forgetting nobody reads manuals biggrin (including me)

OK, I see now, thank you. Obviously you need to be using the v1 BIOS. (For some reason, I always wind up back at v2.) Load and boot disc 1, press start at the 'insert disc' screen, wait for the magic flashing icon, load and boot disc 2, and play. Either way it's kind of annoying. I recommend the iso hack or, failing that, a save state should work as well.
