The Game Gear

The Master System (called Mark III in Japan) was Sega´s competitor for the NES. Though Sega constantly developed new (and good) games, the Master System never beat the NES. The MS was most successful in Europe, especially Great Britain, where most of the games were developed in the "final" days in 1993/94. Overall, about 6 million consoles were sold world-wide until the end of 1994. The Game Gear is the portable version of the Master System, with slightly enhanced graphics and stereo sound, but fully compatible (i.e. you can play MS games on the GG with the use of a special adaptor). The Game Gear was sold 11 million times world-wide (2 million in Japan, 9 million in the rest of the world).

There's another variation of the Master System, called Master System compact. Apparently, this was only sold in Brazil.
