(c) 1985 Firebird (by David Braben and Ian Bell)

The best single-player game of the 1980ies?

Many people think so, including me. Elite is a relatively simple, but enormously addictive game. You are given command over the Cobra MK-III, a small spaceship. You can earn money through trading and hunting. The galaxy you can discover is huge, and it takes months (!) to explore it completely.

And that´s all.

Sounds boring? If you are one of those guys who've already played the game - you know it's not boring. And if you are one of those who've never played it, you should at least give it a try. Of course, it's no "Wing Commander" or "Privateer", but the game has a special flair no other spaceflight game will ever reach again, at least in my opinion... Even "Elite 2 - Frontier" was a big disappointment in that regard.

Elite is available for Spectrum, CPC, C64, Amiga, and as "Elite Plus" for the PC. I prefer playing the C64 version, but the Amiga version is very well done, too.

Elite Documentation
The documentation isn´t very big, but you should read it if you don´t know all the keyboard commands.
Elite - C64 version
My personal favourite.
Elite - Amiga version
A good version, too. Colorful and with filled polygons.
Elite - Spectrum version
A bit slower than on the C64, but still playable.
